Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Prospect Research Assistant is a junior entry level position responsible for performing advanced research to obtain and develop profiles on prospective donors which includes individuals, corporations and foundations.

The Prospect Research Assistant is responsible for the management, analysis and dissemination of biographical, demographic and financial data on the University's over 300,000 alumni, donors, prospects and volunteers acting as a resource to the division's development officers, development directors, assistant vice presidents, and the vice president. The incumbent will serve as an expert user and reference on the University's alumni/donor database and utilize professional resources to research information including news services, financial databases and property assessment records.

The position is responsible for writing original research; formulating strategies; completing prospecting projects; and monitoring news sources on a daily basis to capture information on current and future donors and incorporate into profiles and research. This position reports to the Senior Prospect Researcher and is assigned to work with on average 12 development team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least one (1) year of office experience.

Experience:
A minimum of one year (1) of office experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to conduct Internet searches.
Advanced Microsoft Office experience, including the ability to create template documents, tables and charts.
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills and comfort in a team environment is essential.
Professional, positive manner and image required.

Preferences:

Knowledge and experience working with relational databases and using web-based databases.
Knowledge of specific research applications i.e., Lexis/Nexis and Dun & Bradstreet.
Prospect research experience.
Familiarity with higher education fundraising/development and educational programs.
Knowledge of major corporations, foundations and charitable individuals.

Physical Demands of the Position: This is a primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The position does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
