Job Summary

The Assistant/Associate Dean will be an experienced admissions professional responsible for developing, implementing, and managing office-wide initiatives. The Assistant/Associate Dean contributes to all aspects of the Admissions process, including travel to recruit students and represent the college, review applications for admission, interview prospective students, lead public presentations to promote the College, build relationships with high school counselors and community based organizations, attend and organize recruitment initiatives both on and off-campus, and partner with colleagues across the College. The Assistant/Associate Dean will have the responsibility to work as part of a team to achieve the goals of enrolling a highly-qualified and diverse class. All Admissions staff are expected to contribute to Bowdoin's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Education/Skills Requirements

A Bachelor's degree is required. Applicants must possess excellent organizational skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills; strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; a willingness to travel and to work extended hours during peak periods; and the ability to manage both the small details and a big vision. Proficiency in a variety of common programs of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary. The successful candidate will be someone with a deep enthusiasm for the experience of a liberal arts education, possessing the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds, with a high level of organization, energy, and exceptional presentation skills.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

A minimum of three-five years of relevant recruitment experience, preferably in a private liberal arts college or in selective college advising. Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to prioritize projects in a high-volume and timeline-driven process will be key to success in the role. The Assistant Dean/Associate Dean will be responsible for coordinating and managing projects. An understanding and enthusiasm for admissions work and its cyclical nature as well as an appreciation working with high school and college students is strongly preferred. A valid driver's license and the ability to comply with the College's Motor Vehicle Policy is required. This position is subject to a criminal history background check and motor vehicle record check.

Essential Functions:
• Assisting in the organization and management of recruitment efforts to encourage enrollment of a diverse and talented student body.

• Participating in the general duties of the Admissions Office; including reviewing applications, interviewing prospective students, managing a regional territory, and leading public presentations.

• Building relationships with a diverse population of high school students as well as parents, guidance counselors, community-partners, alumni, and staff.

• Working knowledge of Slate CRM , including communications and campaigns, is preferred.

• Project management oversight with experience in data and reporting.

• Travel 3-5 weeks for recruitment including driving to/from high schools and college fair in the fall. Some travel in the spring and summer. Must be able to travel and work some nights and weekends.

• Possess excellent judgment

• Regular and punctual attendance

• Adherence to and enforcement of College policies as necessary

• Other duties as assigned

Standard Work Days and Hours

Normal business hours between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Long hours and frequent weekend and evening work required during peak periods. Travel is a necessary component of this position.
