ENGINEER - JOURNEY

Job Description: This position provides supervision of professional architectural / engineering services, the management of the design process and the inspection of new construction and/or renovations of buildings on campus. Employee manages design process through 3rd party consulting designers and consultants as well as bidding, award, construction administration and closeout. The employee will serve as a consultant in reviewing plans to comply with architectural standards established by State and Federal regulations, University Design Standards, safety criteria, building codes and regulations. Duties will include participating in and / or conducting inspections of construction projects to determine if contractors have completed work according to prescribed plans and contract requirements. Work is to be in compliance to established architectural and engineering standards, codes, statutes and departmental policies and procedures and is subject to review by administrative officials and users. This position will serve as a liaison between the University and consulting architects, engineers and contractors on a variety of projects and issues ranging from minor renovations to major capital building programs. Interaction will occur during pre-planning, design, construction and start-up phases. This position will identify opportunities, problems and constraints and make decisions to further the long term best interest of the University.
ECU will have a considerable number of infrastructure projects over the next several years. It is expected this position will initially manage large number of these projects as well as building and renovation projects as may be needed.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Salary Grade Equivalent: 76 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
