Job Summary

Under the direction of the Curator/Registrar, the Assistant Curator is responsible for creating and maintaining object records, including basic cataloguing and object condition reporting; entering data in the collections management database (EmbARK); providing routine database maintenance; assisting in routine registrarial and curatorial duties; responding to photograph requests and research questions; and helping oversee student workers.

Education/Skills Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in anthropology, history, museology, or an Arctic-related discipline (Master's degree is preferred). Also required: excellent artifact handling skills; computer skills especially involving digital asset management; familiarity with WORD , EXCEL , and museum collection management software; strong organizational skills; working knowledge of museum collections management procedures; and excellent customer service skills.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required: minimum of three years' experience working in a museum; and some experience with museum collections management.

Standard Work Days and Hours

Year-round, part time. Currently Monday and Tuesday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Wednesday 8:30 am - 12:00 pm. Occasional evening hours.
