Assistant Director Multicultural Affairs


Position Title: Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs

Primary Function:

Reporting to the director, the Assistant Director will facilitate cultural programming, social justice education, advisement of student organizations, and multicultural leadership development initiatives of Multicultural Affairs and Student Affairs.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the programs including diversity peer education program, cultural heritage celebrations, multicultural-social justice programming, and advisement of religious, cultural and social justice student organizations.
  • Assist the Director in the strategic planning and the development and implementation of assessment measures and evaluations for program effectiveness and students' learning outcomes and satisfaction, with a focus on retention rate and career development for multicultural students.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate student staff.
  • Develop strategies to help enhance multicultural student services.
  • Coordinate, develop curricula for, and facilitate leadership, diversity, and professional trainings and workshops for student employees.
  • Provide assessment for peer mentoring and diversity programs.
  • Maintain database profiles for all multicultural student participants and the development of accompanying reports and documents for office initiatives.
  • Develop and implement annual programming and other traditional programs, ensuring that programs are intentional, collaborative, inclusive, and effectively promoted through the University's marketing/advertizing means and social media.
  • Serve as a liaison between student organizations and the Student Government, Inc. in advising and mentoring cultural, religious, and social justice student organizations.
  • Incorporate university policies and procedures pertaining to calendar clearance, contracts, budgets, facilities maintenance, and public safety into event planning.
  • Facilitate collaboration among various departments for diversity trainings as well as on- and off- campus cultural, religious, social justice and global education programming.
  • Participate in Summer New Student Orientation, Commencement, Division committees for University initiatives, and other departmental and University special events programs
  • Assist and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements:

Master's degree required and a minimum of two years progressive administrative experience in cross-cultural programming; knowledge of multicultural student leadership development; identity development; strong awareness of cultural sensitivity and current global social justice issues; and excellent written and oral communication skills. Available to work nights and weekends.



Additional Desired Skills:

Project management, grant writing, and workshop presentation skills.
