Applications are now being accepted for the position of Dean, School of Humanities at San Diego Mesa College. The School of Humanities includes the English and Communication Studies departments. Within these departments are the disciplines: English, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Humanities, Journalism, Teacher Education, and Communication Studies. The School also sponsors two co-curricular programs, the college newspaper and the speech and debate team. The Dean of the School of Humanities reports to the Vice President of Instruction.

Major Responsibilities:
The Dean of the School of Humanities provides the vision for the School and, in close cooperation with department chairs and faculty, is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating instructional and co-curricular programs. More specifically, this includes the coordination and supervision of class schedules and faculty teaching assignments, curriculum development, staff development, and budget. The dean is involved in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of faculty and staff. The dean is expected to establish and maintain connections with relevant community and professional organizations and also participate in college governance and decision-making.

Qualifications:
Possession of a Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution;AND,One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators assignment;OR,Possession of a lifetime California Community College Supervisor Credential.

Desired Qualifications:
The District encourages you to apply for this position, if you possess a combination of education, training, and/or experience which clearly demonstrates the highest level of professional competence. Applicants will be evaluated based upon the following: Background in higher education and experience with shared planning and decision making. Experience in providing educational leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment with knowledge of transfer and career requirements. Experience in program review, including the role it plays in program and curriculum development. Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, organizing, promoting, and evaluating programs and projects. Familiarity with and appreciation for the disciplines within the School of Humanities. Knowledge and understanding of effective instructional techniques, including at least two years of experience in classroom instruction, preferably in at least one of the schools disciplines in a community college. Experience in providing professional learning opportunities and development. Knowledge and understanding of effective management and evaluation of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, and classified staff. Experience in policy administration, including application of local, state, and federal regulations, the California Education Code and Title 5. Demonstrated knowledge of schedule production and effective enrollment management practices. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and foster teamwork in a participatory governance and collective bargaining environment. Effective communication, including the ability to resolve student complaints and employee concerns, work with department chairs, and run school meetings. Experience in fiscal management, including budget planning, development, and monitoring. Knowledge of appropriate use of technology in management and instruction. Serve as an advocate for the School of Humanities within Mesa College and the San Diego Community College District, as well as in the community.

Licenses:
[If possess] California Community College Supervisory Credential.

Pay Information:
Range 18 ($8,543.29 $13,698.57) per month based on the current Management Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
