Computer Systems Administrator

Position Summary:
Computer systems administration with strong emphasis on storage administration that supports High Performance and research computing through interactions with the Advanced Research Computing group's Computational Scientists and faculty researchers across campus.
To provide system administration and application support to assure the reliability, availability, functionality and security of GPFS storage cluster and other related systems. Responsibilities include developing or enhancing software tools or scripts to assist in systems administration, and performance monitoring. Maintain and develop security tools/utilities for forecasting, responding and detecting internet attacks. Lead efforts to isolate and determine causes of system problems that may be complex in nature. Provide technical consulting to IT staff, and university community and assist in solving extraordinary user problems

Required Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge and experience in UNIX and LINUX system administration. Experience troubleshooting software and hardware system errors and the ability to analyze a wide range of hardware/software problems required. In-depth knowledge of UNIX systems, system administration tools and methodologies and security practices. Strong working knowledge of network security concepts. Experience writing complex scripts/programs. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Specific knowledge of several of the following: Backup software such as IBM Spectrum Protect (aka Tivoli Storage Manager), storage solutions such as NetApp cluster mode, Dell storage solutions, parallel file systems such as GPFS , computer operating systems such as UNIX , LINUX , Fiber-channel networking, and data archiving solutions such as IBM Spectrum Scale Archive.
Bachelor degree in a related field or significant work experience doing a similar job such as extensive experience in computer support such as system administration.

Preferred Qualifications:
MS degree in a closely related field with experience working in a high performance computing environment.
Preference given for experience with storage systems interacting with High Performance/Cluster computing environments, knowledge of parallel file systems such as GPFS or Lustre, and interactions with virtualized computing platforms.
Preference given for security related certifications, such as GIAC or CISSP certifications.
