Instructional Designer, Online Learning & Services


Title: Instructional Designer

Department: Online Learning & Services

Summary: The Office of Online Learning & Services seeks outstanding candidates to submit an application for an Instructional Designer position in the Office of Online Learning & Services. Reporting to the Senior Instructional Designer/Project Manager, the Instructional Designer plays a key role in providing consultation and support to the faculty in the design and development of blended and online courses, with a focus on best practices in curricular development, blended/online instruction and assessment of student learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver research-based, learner-centered course development support for instructors teaching in blended and online formats
  • Assist in planning for constant quality improvement and assessment in blended/online teaching and learning formats
  • Lead or collaborate on special projects, initiatives, and external grants that require learning design expertise
  • Recommend active learning strategies that address diverse learning styles, abilities and backgrounds in blended and online environments
  • Recommend policies and procedures that improve course development, blended/online learning and ADA compliance
  • Design, deliver and evaluate professional development for university faculty
  • Advise on best practices and instructional support for instructors using the university-supported learning management system (Blackboard 9.1)
  • Relevant professional development activities are expected/encouraged, including attendance at national and regional conferences as the budget allows

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred in instructional design, curriculum design or closely related field
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in instructional design, or closely related field, preferably in a higher education institution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning and instructional design theories, instructional systems, and learning technologies
  • Experience in partnering with university faculty to design, build, and evaluate blended/online courses using appropriate research-based instructional techniques and technologies
  • Proficiency in Blackboard or similar learning management system
  • Experience with the use of instructional technologies such as web conferencing; anti-plagiarism software; lecture capture; Office software applications; web page editors; graphic software; mobile learning, and basic HTML
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Higher education teaching experience in blended/online formats preferred
