Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Development is responsible for identifying prospective donors, cultivating donors, and closing major and principal gifts for units and programs in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences.

The Director of Development must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships, closing major and principal gifts, effectively staffing and managing the fundraising activities of institutional leaders. Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals and campus leaders.

Must be available to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Local and national travel is required 50% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of successful development experience. Proven record of working effectively with high level donors in a nonprofit or university setting; building donor relationships; and soliciting and closing five+ figure gifts is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must demonstrate the ability to make cold calls as well as to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage more than one project simultaneously, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. The incumbent must be a highly energetic, creative, and experienced professional with a proven track record of building excellent donor relationships and closing five+ figure gifts. Must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with campus leaders, volunteers, and other fundraising professionals. The candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal skills that will enable him/her to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues. Excellent writing and oral communication, and critical thinking skills are essential. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Local and national travel is required 50% of the time.

Preferences:

Master's preferred.
Familiarity with higher education fundraising and experience in a public research university is preferred.
