Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Development Officer, Leadership Annual Giving ( LEAD ) will be responsible for identification and solicitation of LEAD prospects. Will manage a portfolio of prospects, traveling both locally and regionally for visits, to assess their interest, their capacity, and willingness to support the University of Maryland. The Assistant Development Officer will work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, school and college development staff, alumni relations staff, and other University representatives to engage prospects in the $1,000-$50,000 level. Will work under the direction of the Executive Director and Associate Director of LEAD and be a part of the Leadership Annual Giving Team.

The Assistant Development Officer must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building relationships and broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising. Should have knowledge of and enthusiasm for the University of Maryland. Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals and campus leaders.

Must be able to travel up to 50%, occasional work on evenings and/or weekends may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
Must have at least 3 years of successful development experience, demonstrated sales, marketing, communications and /or other 'outreach' skills through professional experience, volunteer work, or internships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner and to cultivate relationships with and solicit alumni and non-alumni friends of the University for gifts. The candidates must have excellent interpersonal and writing skills and the ability to make "cold calls", the ability to manage more than one project simultaneously, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. This position will have a demanding travel schedule. He/she will have the ability to establish positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and prospective donors; work cooperatively to achieve common goals and support cooperation; have extremely strong communication skills; contribute to team success by leading through example and supporting the efforts and successes of their team members; and work well with and understand the needs of colleagues and be able to think creatively and strategically.

The assistant director will be organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills; be able to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines reliably; employ excellent time management; and have the ability to prioritize.

The salary range for this position is $48,000s to $ 59,000s.
