ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PIANO

Job Description: The School of Music at East Carolina University is seeking applications for a tenure-track, nine month, full time faculty position available August 2017. The School of Music is currently seeking an accomplished artist and versatile teacher with a commitment to teaching and performing at the highest levels. Teach applied piano to undergraduate and graduate students and keyboard related courses. Recruit undergraduate and graduate students to the piano program. In addition to applied teaching, the successful candidate will teach in a number of following possible areas: piano pedagogy, keyboard literature, keyboard skills for keyboard majors, and group secondary piano. Keyboard faculty members share the instruction of these related courses. Collaborate with colleagues to develop/implement innovative programs that bring regional and national attention to the Keyboard Department and School of Music. Actively engage with local and regional piano teachers and music teaching organizations. Pursue appropriate research/creative activities and provide service to the university community and profession.

The School of Music, in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, has an enrollment of over 300 music majors and minors with over 50 faculty and staff. The Bachelor of Music Education degree is offered as well as the Bachelor of Music with concentrations in music therapy, performance, or theory-composition. In addition, the School offers a music minor at the undergraduate level. The Master of Music is offered in music education, pedagogy, performance, theory-composition, and a graduate certificate in Advanced Performance Studies. The School is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

East Carolina University, the third largest institution in the University of North Carolina System, is a research doctoral intensive university with an enrollment of over 28,000 students. The University is located in Greenville, North Carolina, a progressive and growing city of over 90,000 that serves as the cultural and economic center of North Carolina's historic Coastal Plain. Greenville is within easy driving distance of the Atlantic coast and the Research Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill; as well as Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C.


Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree required. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and performance.
