ASSISTANT DEAN OF STUDENTS

Job Description: Directly reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for serving as a student advocate and campus resource for faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Dean of Students deals directly and indirectly with students including meeting with students in distress, handling student emergencies, addressing student complaints, advising, providing guidance, and directing students through correct university channels to address their issues and concerns. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for delivering services to students that promote their academic and personal development. These services include, but are not limited to, providing direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis situations. The Assistant Dean of Students engages with members of the university in complex problem-solving and advises faculty, staff, students and parents on sensitive and private issues. The Assistant Dean of Students serves as the primary point of contact for students to express their concerns regarding university life. This position also serves as the primary contact for faculty/staff concerns regarding safety. The Assistant Dean of Students provides referral information, implements and maintains a follow-up system for on- and off-campus agencies that have been referred to campus and provides information regarding other community resources. The Assistant Dean of Students interacts directly with various campus departments, community-based agencies, as well as with faculty, staff, and student family members.


Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in in the area of Counseling, College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education or related field; Minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in higher education, including case management, assessment and risk management. Strong collaboration and communication skills, both written and verbal. A working knowledge in the areas of federal, state, and local laws and regulations that affect higher education and student life.
