ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - - PHYSICAL THERAPY

Job Description: The Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track (12 month) faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor for a well-established Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish a productive and fundable research agenda. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of neuroscience and adult neurologic rehabilitation with opportunities to teach in other areas of interest.

Instructional facilities include fully equipped lecture and laboratory classrooms with multimedia instruction centers including internet and videoconferencing capabilities. Faculty have access to two well-equipped motion analysis labs (Balance Lab = 1000 ft2, Human Movement Lab = 2000 ft2), containing a NeuroCom dynamic force plate system, a HUR balance platform, three 8-camera Qualisys systems, six AMTI force platforms, a split-belt Bertec fully instrumented treadmill, LiteGait bodyweight support system, and two 16 channel Motion Lab Systems EMG setups, a GaitRite system, and a Novel Insole Pressure system. Additionally, facilities are available and PT faculty are in place to collaborate on blood and tissue analysis research.

The Department of Physical Therapy has a faculty clinic which provides opportunities for clinical practice and research, and a well-established collaborative relationship with Vidant Medical Center, a fully accredited, 900+ bed hospital regional referral facility that serves 29 counties. Vidant encompasses a level-1 trauma center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including rehabilitation, pain management, and high tech body weight supported gait training devices. Our DPT program has strong administrative support, attracts top quality students. The ECU College of Allied Health Sciences graduates the most allied health professionals in the state and is the first and only college of allied health sciences in North Carolina.

The College of Allied Health Sciences is an integral part of a vibrant medical campus including the Brody School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, the College of Nursing, the East Carolina Heart Institute, and Vidant Medical Center. East Carolina University, the third largest university in the state (~29,000 students), is a constituent of the UNC system. ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population ~91,000). Located approximately 1 hours from the capital city of Raleigh, Greenville is the cultural, educational, medical, and economic center of eastern North Carolina. It is also within driving distance (2 - 4 hours) to the Outer Banks and to the mountains.


Minimum Qualifications: Should hold or be near completion of a PhD or equivalent degree and eligibility for PT licensure in North Carolina.
