Job Summary

The Director of Global Studies Programs is responsible for the overall management of the study abroad functions of the Office of Global Studies.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment:
  • Propose, create and implement short- and long-term internal recruitment plan, with an eye toward a dramatic increase in student participation that aligns with SJU's strategic priorities (in terms of diversity, inclusion, and location).
  • Propose, implement, and manage partnerships and agreements pertaining to external student enrollment in St. John's abroad programs, including exchange programs.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communication to create best-in-class electronic and print media campaign that will help attract an increasing, diverse study abroad population at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both from SJU and from other colleges/universities. This includes brochures, social media and other ad buys, study abroad search engine oversight (e.g., studyabroad.com), and any related activities.
  • Oversee admissions process, ensuring that all applications and inquiries are processed accurately, efficiently, and that follow-up processes are well-managed and meet student needs.
  • Create an outreach program for parents, ensuring that they are fully engaged in the study abroad decision process.
  • Create a communication plan for SJU advisers and deans, ensuring that they are fully engaged and informed as recruitment partners.
  • Create high-level reports on all matters related to admissions, recruitment, student demographics, student life, and marketing strategy & projections.

Pre-Departure & Student Life:
  • Oversee all aspects of pre-departure communication, from acceptance letter through arrival abroad. This includes website development and content creation, social media utilization, and print materials, where appropriate, fully integrated with the "look and feel" of marketing efforts.
  • Work with Student Life team to ensure that protocols and procedures for managing student incidents abroad (e.g., integration with appropriate NYC-based SJU offices, insurance companies) are in line with best practices designed to keep students safe. Includes semi-annual revision of emergency response planning and guidelines.
  • Oversee all aspects of pre-departure requirements including visa preparation and reconciliation.
  • Work with teams abroad to ensure students are mentored to make the most of their experience.

Academics & Program Development:
  • Work with Coordinator of Academics to oversee and manage short-term, faculty-led programs.
  • Collaborate with deans, advisors, and faculty to propose and develop new short-term and semester-length programs, focusing on the Rome, Seville, and Paris campuses--an essential component of reaching strategic plan and enrollment goals. Direct faculty outreach to have them support and recruit for existing programs in addition to creating new programs.
  • Coordinate and manage faculty interest groups for new programs, creating and updating a "how to" guide for faculty program creation.
  • Create and update faculty brochures to ensure that they "buy in" to study abroad and can serve as effective advocates for our programs.

Other Duties:
  • Supervise staff of professional and administrative employees, graduate assistants, and undergraduate peer advisors.
  • Increase office's "presence" at a national level, though presentations and work with organizations such as NAFSA and the Forum.
  • Review and seek approval for all MOA's, exchange agreements, and other agreements with international organizations (and other related agreements.)
  • Conduct regular curriculum review of existing programs, proposing and implementing changes as needed.
  • In collaboration with overseas and NYC teams, manage student registration process, ensuring that appropriate class sections are offered based on student interest, that faculty are hired as needed, and that all program participants are properly enrolled in classes.
  • Position requires travel.
  • Position is part of a 24/7 emergency on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience in progressively demanding jobs in international education, preferably in a managerial position at a study abroad office at another university.
  • Experience managing recruitment and marketing strategies in an admissions environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional presentation abilities.
  • Interest in working in an idea-driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Must have experience creating marketing campaigns aimed at a student population and be able to create complex reports in Excel.
  • Very strong computer and data manipulation abilities. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Admissions experience preferred.
