PT Hourly POOL - Professional Nurse (Non-Faculty)


Definition

Under direction, the Registered Nurse will assess physical and mental health needs of the students, assist the physicians and nurse practitioners in providing care, refer students to community heath providers as indicated, provide first aid to students and/or staff members, and other registered nursing functions appropriate to a college health service center. Assignments are short-term, temporary, and will not exceed 28 hours per week or 160 days per Fiscal Year.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
a.Provide nursing assistance to the Student Health Center.
b.Assist college physicians and mental health team in provision of health care to the college student population.
c.Evaluate mental and physical health needs of students and make appropriate disposition.
d.Assist in crisis intervention, health education, and counseling.
e.Asses the student's stress levels as it relates to academic, work and personal commitments and assist in realistic priority determination.
f.Refer students to appropriate campus community resources for socio-economic, legal, and financial needs.
g.Provide follow up on medical and mental health treatment of students.
h.Administer emergency first aid to students, college staff, and visitors.
i.Follow protocol for communicable disease control.
j.Orient new RN's and student health staff.
k.Alert director of possible areas of concern requiring intervention.
l.Assist in formulation of policies, procedures, and protocol for the student health center.
m.Participate in college committees relevant to health/safety.
n.Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
1.The application and principles, methods and procedures of nursing.
2.Causes and means of transmission and methods of control of communicable diseases.
3.Sociological and psychological principles underlying nursing practice.
4.Community resources available for medical and psychological service.

Ability to:
5.Perform crisis intervention.
6.Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate health care programs and standards.
7.Set priorities without direct supervision.
8.Direct the work of others.
9.Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
10.Administer prescribed medical treatment, laboratory tests, and medication within District policy.

Education and Experience:
11.Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Nursing Examiners.
12.At least two years recent experience in professional nursing; preferably related to an ambulatory care setting.
13.Possession of current C.P.R. and First Aid Certification.

Conditions of Employment

Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Assignments are short-term, temporary, and do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked, and are limited to 28 hours per week or 160 days per fiscal year. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises.
