About the Position
The Student Health Center (SHC) provides a variety of medical services, which are similar to the outpatient care provided in a large group practice. These services include primary and urgent/acute care; evaluation, treatment and guidance for individual health problems; family planning services; nutrition; physical therapy; psychiatry; sports medicine; public health prevention programs and health education. In addition, the SHC provides limited initial care for work injuries of employees, and if necessary, assists in referring such persons for ongoing care.
Reporting to the Director and receiving clinical services direction from the Medical Chief of Staff, the Nurse Team Lead has the responsibility for the overall organization and direction of nursing services in the SHC. The incumbent will also provide direct student services, in order to stay proficient in nursing skills and to model/coach effective service delivery for the nurse team. The incumbent will oversee one or more SHC support services (e.g. X-Ray, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or Physical Therapy).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Establish and oversee nurse team functions for the clinic (daily and long term)
Provide feedback for and support implementation of nursing standing orders and nursing clinical protocols (e.g., travel medicine, allergy injections, Deproporvera administration, phone advice, etc.)
Prepare necessary reports for the Santa Clara County Health Department (SCCHD), including monthly vaccine reports and Morbidity Reports
Order and prepare inventories of clinical supplies, drugs, vaccines, and equipment
Evaluate and recommend new medical equipment and supplies for patients
Serving as Infection Control Nurse, provide advice and consultation about infection control standards
Supervise and evaluate the work performance and schedules of the nursing and any assigned ancillary staff (in order to maintain optimum medical care, services, and education for students and a positive work environment for the nurse team)
Recruit, interview, recommend for hire RNs, LVNs, and assigned personnel
This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position may also require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position will be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.
