Description: The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking applicants for the Section Chief of Musculoskeletal ( MSK ) Radiology. This is a full-time, physician-scientist, tenure track position. The academic appointment will be at a rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position reports to the Chair and oversees the MSK section operations for the Institution. The ideal candidate is expected to make a significant impact in the field of MSK Radiology through innovations and contribute to a collegial environment that will promote the academic and clinical growth of the section. The Section Chief's responsibilities include: organizing clinical services and innovating care delivery; initiating and expanding research programs; supporting and engaging in teaching for residents and fellows; and advancing quality improvement programs and value initiatives. The Section supports an outstanding MSK Radiology fellowship program. The Department is known internationally for its excellence in educational innovations and imaging research. Depending on the candidate's academic experience, a departmental leadership position will also be considered.

Qualifications: The candidate should be MSK fellowship (or equivalent)-trained in all aspects of MSK radiology including ultrasound and procedures. Outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. The candidate should have strong academic interest and prior evidence of research productivity. Active engagement in investigational MSK research and extramurally funded research projects is desired. Prior experience in leadership positions is ideal.

Facilities and Institution: The MSK section provides clinical services at the University Hospital, University Orthopaedic Center ( UOC ), VA medical center, and Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI -designated premier cancer center. The UOC , a national flagship Orthopaedic institution, will expand significantly in the next few years, bringing in both a unique case mix and various research opportunities. There are also opportunities for expanding coverage at the Institutions outpatient centers. Extensive imaging resources, including multiple MRIs, dual-energy CTs, intraoperative MRI , and PET -CT scanners are available for clinical work and research. Pre-clinical imaging resources, such as micro PET - MRI and 7T MRI , are also available. Research opportunities abound, with a broad case mix from the sources described above, as well as the world-class unique support provided by the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research ( UCAIR ) in the Department. UCAIR offers international expertise in imaging sciences, including basic sciences, physics and engineering, MRI research, and CT and PET research. The University of Utah Health Sciences offer various leadership programs and research training opportunities for faculty members. A leader in quality care, the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics were ranked #1 in Quality, Safety, and Accountability among all academic medical centers in 2016 and consistently ranked in the top 10 over the past six years in a row.

Location: The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, in the foothill of the Wasatch Mountains at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains. Salt Lake City is a rapidly growing, multicultural city, listed at 7th Best Place for Business and Careers by Forbes Magazine in 2015.
