Position/Job Summary

Temporary positions within the Campus Store to provide customer service and process books and merchandise sales to include operating the point-of-sale-computerized register, assisting customers in locating merchandise and placing special orders. Stock merchandise and provide assistance within other areas of the Bookstore.

Positions are available Thursday, January 19, 2017, through Friday, January 27, 2017. Additional hours may be available until on or about Friday, February 3, 2017.

Position/Job Responsibilities

1. Record sales transactions including cash and charge cards; receive monies and disburse change; cash checks and calculate discounts if applicable.

2. Assist customers in locating merchandise; offer suggestions and place special orders for items not in stock.

3. Retrieve merchandise from the stockroom and price and shelve items; assist in setting up window and counter displays.

4. Conduct visual surveillance of retail sales area and alert appropriate personnel of shoplifting activities.

5. Maintain cash register supplies; count and balance cash and checks and request change as needed. Ensure adequate currency in the registers each morning and remove currency every afternoon and close the registers.

6. Provide customers with information regarding Bookstore policies and procedures.

Position/Job Qualifications

High School Diploma with 1-year retail cashiering experience. Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with the public with an emphasis on customer service, ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Basic skills and working knowledge of computer operating systems and their usage including a retail point-of-sale operating system and the ability to operate a computerized register/ terminal.

Candidates must be available to work Thursday, January 19, 2017, through Friday, January 27, 2017. Additional hours may be available until on or about Friday, February 3, 2017. Candidates must be also available for a 3-hour orientation session (1 pm - 4 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017). Candidates are required to work Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22. Although scheduled work hours vary, standard weekday hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Work schedules will be distributed during the orientation session.
