Technology Engagement Librarian
The faculty and staff of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library ( EHSL ) at the University of Utah invite applications for a Technology Engagement Librarian in the Education and Research Department. The Technology Engagement Librarian reports directly to the Associate Director for Education and Research and is responsible for assisting faculty, staff, and students in making effective use of educational technology and information resources. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in leveraging new technologies to meet the needs of the library and its users, keeping abreast of new educational and instructional technology developments, and strategically planning for new service offerings in the short and long terms. To achieve these goals, the Technology Engagement Librarian will serve as the department's liaison for embedding technology development and training into education, research and clinical practice. Internally, the Technology Engagement Librarian will work closely with members of the Education and Research team to develop and implement innovative technological solutions for local and remote consultative services, such as robots, kiosks, LibAnswers, LibChat, and similar technologies as appropriate. The Technology Engagement Librarian actively partners with other team members in the Education and Research Team to provide in-person and virtual assistance, library instruction sessions, curriculum-embedded sessions, and one-on-one in-depth consultations in all areas of the health sciences. Other duties may be assigned. This position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. All librarians are expected to contribute to the profession through service, scholarship, outreach, and mentoring.

The mission of the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library is to advance and transform education, research, and health care through dynamic technologies, evidence application, and collaborative partnerships. EHSL contributes to the success of health professionals, students, researchers and the community. EHSL is recognized locally and nationally as a leader of intellectual exploration and as a catalyst for innovative discovery. The University of Utah Health Sciences Center is known for cutting-edge research, particularly in genetics and biomedical informatics, and its Center for Clinical & Translational Science was refunded by the NIH in 2013. Health services research, personalized health care, population health and innovation are new key research areas.

The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library (http://library.med.utah.edu) serves University of Utah Health Care, the Intermountain West's only academic health sciences center, including the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and the Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy and Health as well as the University Hospitals and Clinics. The Library also serves as headquarters for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental Region and the National Library of Medicine Training Office. It is a member of the Utah Academic Library Consortium, the Medical Library Association, the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries, and the Association of Research Libraries.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Required:
• Graduate degree from an ALA -accredited library school or other relevant accredited graduate degree
• At least 1 year professional experience in a library environment
• Flexibility and adaptability for work in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work as a team member and independently
• Commitment to diversity in the workplace and community
• Demonstrated experience with emerging and established educational and instructional technologies, including mobile applications and remote and asynchronous learning tools
• Familiarity with current web technologies and design principles
• Willingness to seek membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals ( AHIP )

Preferred:
• Previous professional work experience within health sciences libraries
• Experience evaluating and implementing educational and instructional technologies in a library setting
• Familiarity with Canvas or other course management systems
• Experience providing instruction in an academic setting
• Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous virtual service technologies
• Familiarity with user experience (UX) fundamentals in web design
• Knowledge of instructional design principles
• Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to reach out to and actively engage persons from diverse populations and campus groups
• Sense of humor

Salary and Benefits:
Based on experience, starting at $53,000 minimum annually. Position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Rank is dependent on the qualifications of the candidate. Faculty benefits include 200 hours of vacation, and 12 days of sick leave annually. There is a generous TIAA / CREF retirement employer contribution. Job Duties
• Identifies, evaluates, recommends, and implements new technologies to enhance the EHSL's ability to engage with its users
• Trains faculty, staff, and students to use effective technologies and information resources for educational, instructional, and research purposes
• Maintains and updates technology equipment for the department, as needed and in conjunction with the EHSL's IT department
• Provides in-person and virtual assistance, library instruction sessions, and one-on-one in-depth consultations on technology and other topics
• Works with faculty to incorporate educational and instructional technologies and information resources into curricula and clinical practice across the health sciences
• Works closely with other EHSL faculty and staff as part of the Education and Research Team
• Promote EHSL research and education services to the greater health sciences community as part of the Education and Research Team
• Contribute innovative ideas and develop innovative programs and services as part of the EHSL Faculty Council
• Contribute to written reports, EHSL newsletter, and the EHSL's social media offerings
• Contribute to professional knowledge base by preparing and delivering presentations and publications to meet faculty requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
