Position Overview

Applications are invited for a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, and have at least three years of postdoctoral research experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong potential to develop and maintain an externally funded research program in pharmacology or toxicology. Individuals with research expertise in either of four focus areas: 1) neuroinflammation, 2) epigenetics, 3) imaging, 4) metabolomics, are especially sought. Prospective faculty are also expected to actively participate in teaching in the graduate and professional pharmacy programs of the department. The Pharmacy School at the University of Kansas has a strong history of competitive research supported by advanced research core facilities for proteomic and genomic analyses (microarray, MiSeq and HiSeq), molecular modeling, high-throughput screening, quantitative bio-behavioral assessment and bright-field, fluorescence, and electron microscopy (i.e., 4-D and 5-D imaging of living cells or tissues as well as for fixed specimens; 2-D and 3-D ultrastructural studies of cell structures and tissues) and 2-D/5-D image data analysis resources.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of appointment.

Job Description

40% - 1. Development and maintenance of an active, externally funded research program in pharmacology as described below
1) neuroinflammation, 2) epigenetics, 3) imaging, 4) metabolomics,
40% - 2. Preparation and presentation of lectures and other teaching approaches in graduate and undergraduate courses in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
20% - 3. Participate in service activities at the level of the Department, School, University and profession.


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline, such as Pharmacology or Toxicology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Biochemistry, or Cell and/or Molecular Biology.
  • Research experience; 3 years (minimum) post-doctoral experience in one of the following areas: pharmacology, toxicology, cell and molecular biology or a closely related field.
  • Candidates should demonstrate outstanding potential for obtaining external funding for their research proposals with translational impact.
  • Demonstrated success in publishing research findings in nationally and internationally recognized journals.
  • General expertise or comparable experience that supports an interest in, and an ability to teach, broad aspects of general pharmacology and toxicology in the context of a professional Pharm. D. program.
  • Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English as evidenced by application materials, phone interviews and on-campus interviews.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct or contribute to interdisciplinary research projects and a record of collaborative interactions with scientists in diverse fields
  • Potential for productive collaborations with investigators in the home department, the School of Pharmacy and the University of Kansas
  • Demonstrated research expertise in either of four focus areas:
    • neuroinflammation,
    • epigenetics,
    • imaging,
