Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a current California CLS license and have an earned Doctorate by the start of the appointment. Expertise in one of the following areas is strongly preferred: Hematology, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Clinical Chemistry or Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. Experience in clinical laboratory science research is also preferred. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation and certification procedures.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of practical experience in clinical laboratory work and three years teaching experience with a proven record of excellence in teaching.

Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role as Program Director for the Clinical Laboratory Scientist Training Program and the Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist Training Program at San Jose State University. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the organization, administration, instruction, and evaluation of both programs, and direct both curriculum planning and development.

The Director manages program budgets and maintain close contact with students, faculty and training personnel at our clinical affiliates. Additionally, the Director will engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional education over every 3 years, and will be responsible for maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program.

The Director is encouraged to develop teaching and research collaborations with department faculty in other disciplines of biology. Innovation in teaching is strongly encouraged and research involving masters and undergraduate students is expected. Tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in shared governance activities. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 21, 2017
