TEACHING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Job Description: The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising at East Carolina University has a position open for a Teaching Assistant Professor in Interior Design. This is a fixed-term nine-month appointment available, beginning August 2017. Teaching, scholarship, and appropriate service to the university, community and profession are expected.

Responsibilities are to teach undergraduate studio and lecture courses in design specialties (such as kitchen and bath design, design for wellness, hospitality design, etc.) and at least five of the following: 3-D design, graphic presentation, drafting and presentation software, model construction, residential design, commercial design, interior construction and detailing, building systems, building codes, materials and specifications, human behavior, and professional practice. Pursue an active scholarship program; including grant writing, publishing in refereed journals or presentation in juried exhibitions, and presentation of research/creative activity to professional organizations. Demonstrate area of expertise or leadership at the appropriate rank level.

Provide services to the university and community. Participate in the continued development of the undergraduate interior design program. Maintain contacts and activity with professional associations and industries.

The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising has nine full-time faculty members with four teaching in the interior design program. The undergraduate interior design program has about 90-100 majors.

Minimum Qualifications: MFA in interior design or closely related field (including but not limited to interior architecture, environmental design, industrial or product design, architecture (MArch)). Two years of demonstrated successful experience in university teaching, scholarship, and service. Two years demonstrated successful experience in the practice of interior design.
