Position Summary

Bowdoin College Department of Art invites applications for a one-year visiting artist/educator with expertise in sculpture. The position requires a strong grounding in traditional three-dimensional studio processes and materials, the ability to teach a strong foundation in perceptual, formal, and critical skills within a liberal arts context, and the ability to engage students in the social and theoretical dimensions of contemporary artistic practice. Additional experience in other media and types of practice is also welcome. Teaching expectation is two courses per semester. Candidates must have an MFA and a record of effective teaching in higher education at the time of appointment. The successful candidate can expect active support for his/her creative work. The Visual Arts Department works in close collaboration with the Department of Art History and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art [http://www.bowdoin.edu/art-museum]

Please submit a PDF file no larger than 5 MB that includes the following: a letter of application stating their motivation for teaching at a small, liberal arts college as well as their vision for the role of three-dimensional studies in a visual art program (limit of two pages), curriculum vitae (limit of three pages), ten images of their own creative work (with captions), the URL for a website displaying their creative work, and the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide a recommendation on request.
