We are seeking an applied mathematician whose research involves the applications of PDEs to the modeling of traffic flow. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to macroscopic modeling using conservation laws to model aggregate traffic behavior, and mesoscopic modeling using kinetic theory methods.

The Department of Mathematics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a position as a professor of mathematics, in the area of mathematical traffic modeling, beginning on August 16, 2017 or as negotiated.
We are seeking an applied mathematician whose research involves the applications of PDEs to the modeling of traffic flow. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to macroscopic modeling using conservation laws to model aggregate traffic behavior, and mesoscopic modeling using kinetic theory methods.
The University of Alabama is a student-centered research university and the new strategic plan calls for a major expansion in research productivity (www.ua.edu/strategicplan/). The Department of Mathematics is looking to expand both its faculty and graduate program in order to increase its national profile. The successful candidate must possess a doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field and will be appointed as a full professor. The candidate should have a international reputation for scholarship, a proven track record of securing external funding, demonstrated excellence at graduate and undergraduate education, and a willingness to supervise undergraduate and graduate research. The candidate will become part of an existing group in mathematical modeling and scientific computation, and will be expected to interact with the recently formed Alabama Transportation Institute (www.ati.ua.edu).
