Adjunct Instructors for Adult Undergraduate Studies


Carthage College invites applicants to teach our 7-week program in Adult Undergraduate Studies . We offer undergraduate courses of study that provide opportunities for busy adults to pursue degrees on a part-time evening basis, at times convenient to their schedules. These positions report to the Department Chair within the respective course.

With several terms running each year, the College often seeks qualified adjunct instructors with a special interest and talent in teaching post-traditional students. Seven-week, evening courses are offered Monday through Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

  • Finance (master's degree must be from an AACSB-accredited program)

  • Religion
  • Sociology

Job responsibilities
  • Instructors provide classroom instruction and evaluate homework assignments, exams, and quizzes. Courses offered in the 7-week program meet once a week for 7 weeks so instruction should be delivered in a blended format so that learning outcomes are equivalent to traditional, semester courses. Participation in a blended-learning workshop is required for all instructors teaching with AUS.
  • Instructors must be available via email outside of classroom hours.

Minimum education and experience required

Successful completion of a master's degree in the academic discipline in which you wish to teach. A doctorate, or other terminal degree as appropriate, is preferred.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate with adult, nontraditional students.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer and web browser, Learning Management System, Gmail, and Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
