Description: The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor who has expertise in cardiovascular applications of magnetic resonance imaging. The successful candidate will work in the Cardiac MRI Laboratory that is led by Dr. Edward DiBella, an international leader in cardiovascular MRI research who has been funded by multiple federal grants. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a rich array of physician scientists and clinicians and scientists from various departments. The Department and the Laboratory will provide startup funds. The Department and the University will provide ample opportunities and career development support for junior faculty (i.e., http://medicine.utah.edu/faculty-dev/index.php).

Qualifications: This position requires a PhD degree in an appropriate science or technology major such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Bioengineering. The successful candidate must have substantial experience in MRI physics and applied research and have demonstrated successful peer-reviewed publications in the field of MRI and medical imaging as well as prior extramural funding. The candidate must be independently capable of developing MRI pulse sequences, conducting imaging experiments, and image analysis. Experience in Siemens IDEA programming is preferred. The candidate will be expected to generate extramural funding for independent and collaborative research projects and to work well in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment in the Department and in the University community.

Facilities: The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research ( UCAIR ) in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah is home to a team of top-notch scientists with broad expertise and state-of-the-art technology. The Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research ( UCAIR , http://medicine.utah.edu/ucair/) currently has 14 scientists, 14 postdocs/research associates, 12 staff members, and ~20 graduate students from bioengineering, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and medical informatics in addition to several physician scientists. The UCAIR faculty have access to a number of MRI scanners (One Siemens 3T Prisma, two Siemens 3T Trios, three Siemens 3T Verios, two Siemens 1.5T Avantos, one Siemens 1.5T Aera, one Siemens 1.5T Espree, and one Bruker 7T small animal scanner), a full coil laboratory, a Siemens PET /CT scanner and a GE Discovery and a GE Advance PET scanner with on-site cyclotron, several gamma cameras, two 64 slice CT scanners (one with dual tube CT), a large network of UNIX / LINUX work stations and PCs, and access to the University supercomputing facilities. Strong collaborations exist between the outstanding clinical services of the University, including the Cardiology, CARMA with a focus on cardiac interventional MRI , the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute ( SCI ), and Huntsman Cancer Institute. A leader in quality care, the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics were ranked #1 in Quality, Safety, and Accountability among all academic medical centers in 2016 and consistently has ranked in the top 10 over the past six years in a row.

Location: The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, in the foothill of the Wasatch Mountains at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains.
