About the Position

The Student Affairs Case Manager for the Economic Crisis Response Team is under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Services with lead direction from the Senior Student Affairs Case Manager, and serves as the nexus of information and integration for the campus response to students experiencing varying degrees of economic need and/or distress. The incumbent is readily accessible and provides consultations to students, faculty, staff, parents and family members who are concerned about a SJSU student experiencing economic distress. The Student Affairs Case Manager works closely with key offices (including but not limited to Financial Aid & Scholarship Office, University Housing Services, Spartan Shops, Counseling & Psychological Services, University Police Department, and Student Health Center) to identify and intervene as early as possible with students whose behavior suggests the need for support services. Duties include providing information and training for the campus community; fielding calls, emails, and referrals regarding students experiencing economic distress; coordinating responses and services for individuals; maintaining the Economic Crisis Response Team database; undertaking research on national best practices; serving on the Economic Crisis Response Team, planning activities to support the Economic Crisis Response Team, and participation on other appropriate campus committees.

The Student Affairs Case Manager provides case management to students facing economic crisis/es. Case management services include but are not limited to: providing assessment, advocacy, resources and referrals. The Student Affairs Case Manager supports students struggling to provide for their basic needs which have an impact on their ability to be successful in the classroom. The Student Affairs Case Manager coordinates services and provides referrals to the appropriate resources on and off campus.

The position works closely with the Economic Crisis Response Team to assist with various aspects of program administration. The Student Affairs Case Manager coordinates events and activities to support students in economic crisis including mobile food pantries, campus food shelves, CalFresh sign ups, MediCal sign ups, financial counseling and workshops. The position also coordinates outreach efforts to ensure that the SJSU community is aware of how to respond to a student facing an economic crisis. In addition, this position provides assistance to the other Case Manager in Student Affairs with workload as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinating responses to individuals in distress
- Provide oversight to the Economic Crisis Response Team reporting system

This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.
