Vice President

Position Description:

The Vice President for Student Affairs provides vision, executive leadership, and operational management for the University's Student Affairs Division, which is comprised of the following departments: Student Success and Retention (New Student Programs, Orientation); Career Services; Student Life and Event Services; Center for Multicultural Education; Dean of Students (Assistance and Outreach, Student Disability Services, Military and Veterans Services, Student Conduct, LGBT* Center); Department of Residence (Residence Life, Residence Facilities, Dining Services); and Health and Recreation Services (Student Health Clinic, Counseling, Recreation Services, Student Wellness Services).

The Vice President is responsible for promoting student learning, success, and well-being and building a sense of engagement and campus community. The Vice President guides divisional programs to foster a vibrant, diverse, inclusive, and stimulating campus life and to support University retention initiatives. The successful candidate will be actively engaged in student life and University culture, and will lead initiatives and forge partnerships to enhance meaningful learning experiences. The ultimate objective will be to optimize each student's educational journey with high quality experiences within a student-centered environment. This position reports to the President and serves as a member of the President's Executive Management Team, working closely with the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations, the Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Chief Diversity Officer.

Education Requirements:

A doctorate from an accredited institution required.

Required Qualifications:

Progressive, senior management experience in higher education and student affairs are required. The Vice President will also have experience with, and understanding of, budgeting and financial and human resource management. The Vice President must possess an open, transparent leadership style with the ability to effectively collaborate with students, student organizations, faculty, staff, parents, and community members. Candidates must exhibit a commitment to educational excellence and continuous improvement, with skills to effectively represent the University to external stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications:

Among a broad array of desired qualities, the successful candidates will also demonstrate knowledge and understanding of contemporary higher education and current national trends and best practices; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; and sensitivity and skill to work with diverse student and employee populations with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.
