About the Position:
The Director of Student Involvement, a management position, reports to the Associate Vice President for Campus Life, Division of Student Affairs. The Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership by keeping up to date with new trends and theories in the field of Student Affairs. The Director is responsible for the overall management, planning, administration, and evaluation of the department's programs, services, facilities, and budgets. The Director also provides leadership in the design and implementation of Student Involvement department initiatives and programs which include, but are not limited to, co-curricular programs and leadership development, student organization services and support for approximately 400 student clubs and organizations, university-wide student success and engagement activities, and international student programming services. Additionally, the Director works closely with the student government and provides support and advising to various officers and/or committees as needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of three major functional areas (student clubs and organizations, leadership development, and campus-wide and international student programming)
- Oversee signature campus-wide SJSU events such as Tailgate Takeover, Student Clubs and Organizations Leadership Conference, Major Speaker Series, Ask Me Tables, Finals Week, and other events
- Manage the recognition process for approximately 400 student clubs and organizations
- Assess changing student needs and interests in order to develop and offer attractive, applicable programming and engagement opportunities
- Oversee the expansion and continued development of the leadership development program and the programs for international students
- Oversee the support functions for the department including customer service
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols for all department programs
- Evaluate all department programs for effectiveness by overseeing the assessment process
- Manage the SI departmental budget, including making allocation decisions pertaining to program areas, identification of funding needs and resources, and the allocation of funds to the Recognized Student Organizations
- This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President.
This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.
