Qualifications:
Required -
Ph.D. in a related field.
Commitment to teaching excellence with technology integrated into teaching; ability to teach online
classes
Active research agenda with strong potential for publications and funded research
Expertise in socio-legal studies, critical legal studies, sociology of law, comparative law, or related field
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might
have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience

Preferred -
Research and teaching in an area related to power and stratification such as constitutional and civil rights, juvenile justice, racial disparities in criminal justice, policing minority communities, economic inequality, disability rights, sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination, or family violence
Research and teaching that can enhance existing department emphases in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Human Rights, or Forensic Science, including Digital Forensics
Strong record of teaching excellence
A global or international perspective in teaching and research

Responsibilities:
Maintain effective teaching in the Justice Studies undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching required skills courses and providing guidance for graduate student research projects
Actively participate in shared governance, including curricular development, planning and implementing departmental activities, participating in committees, and student support
Develop and maintain an active research and publishing agenda
Advise students, collaborate with other faculty, and perform professional service to the University,
community, and academic profession
Address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, religion, nationality, cultural
background, ethnicity, race, primary language, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Justice Studies is a high profile department at San José State University, located in the center of San José and the heart of Silicon Valley. Established in 1930, the Department of Justice Studies is distinguished as one of the first degree-granting programs in criminal justice in the United States. The department now prepares students to be competent justice professionals in a technologically complex and culturally diverse society.
