ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Job Description: The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Geographic Information Science (GIS) to begin August 13, 2018. We seek a GIS scholar who applies geospatial theory and innovative methods and technologies to advance a vibrant, externally-funded research program that complements the department's existing strengths. The successful candidate will exhibit excellence in teaching and provide leadership in the expansion of the department's undergraduate GIS curriculum and in the development of a newly established Professional Science Master's Program.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS and the candidate's area of specialty, as well as advising of undergraduate and graduate students. The faculty member is expected to play a key role in growing the Department's BS degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology, and in enhancing the profile of GIS within the Department's graduate programs.

The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment (www.ecu.edu/geog/) is a diverse, research-active, and collegial unit that houses five undergraduate degree programs, and offers the MS in Geography. The Department has a strong commitment to inter-disciplinary research, and we expect the candidate to take advantage of opportunities for collaboration with other academic units on the ECU Campus.

ECU is located in Greenville, NC (pop. 90,000), which lies about 80 miles east of Raleigh and a short distance to the Atlantic coast.


Minimum Qualifications: Candidates with Ph.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates also will be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to your first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
