Job Summary

The Graphic Program at St. John's University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Interactive Design at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin August 2017.

We seek candidates with a strong understanding of front-end development, information architecture, user experience, concept modeling. The candidate should also have experience with standard prototyping tools and techniques. The position requires a strong understanding of designing in mobile environments including responsive design, website development and a working knowledge of CMS frameworks as well as the ability to teach classes focusing on more traditional competencies including: design strategy and entrepreneurship, typography, design rhetoric, theory, and semiology. Ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge of current and emerging professional practices in interaction design with the ability to prepare students for careers in the field. They will also be fluent with both historical and contemporary movements in design and will be able to connect design practice to issues of political, environmental, and regional concern. The teaching load is two studio courses per semester.

Minimum Qualifications: MFA degree (or equivalent) in Design, Graphic Design, Communication Design, Interactive Design, User Interface Design or a related field; significant and successful teaching experience at the university level; strong research and/or publication record.
