Assistant Professor

Position Description:

University of Northern Iowa's Department of Theatre seeks a dynamic teacher and artist with ongoing professional directing activity to direct theatre productions and teach in the areas of Directing, Script Analysis, and Dramatic Literature. This is a tenure-track faculty position based on 10-month appointment with typical directing load of one production per year; each directing assignment is accompanied by a course release. Theatre UNI produces 4-5 plays annually in three performance venues. The department offers emphases in performance, design and production, and theatre for youth. All emphases yield a Liberal Arts BA. Faculty members participate fully in department and college activities, including serving on committees and advising students. Opportunities for development of specialized coursework that aligns with the applicant's creative work, scholarship, or research, are present.

Education Requirements:

PhD in Theatre or Drama required.

Required Qualifications:

Professional and academic directing credits and at least two years of successful teaching at the university level are required. Qualified applicants will have strong communication skills and demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, directing, mentoring students, and collaborating in the production of various theatre genres, including musical theatre.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preferred areas of achievement or teaching experience include theatre history, playwriting, or non-western theatre.
