Coordinator of Campus Activities


Title: Coordinator of Campus Activities

Department: Student Affairs - Campus Activities

Campus: Queens

Primary Function: Reporting to the Director of Campus Activities, the Coordinator will assist with the development, planning and programming of campus-wide student activities; coordinate and facilitate commuter student programs; and collaborate with other departments to implement unique and innovative evening and weekend programs. The Coordinator will work with students, staff, and faculty interested in creating inclusive, engaging and lively programs geared toward student-centered activities and events that enhance campus life at St. John's University.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and program campus-wide student activities, including the creation and coordination of activities and events for commuter students.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for specific Signature & Traditional events, including but not limited to the fall and spring Activities Fairs.
  • Utilize assessment instruments to gather data for program evaluation and effectiveness.
  • Advise Student Programming Board and other student organizations, maintaining CORE standards for each.
  • Coordinate publicity of student organization events.
  • Collaborate with Campus Activities staff and external departments to plan and program large-scale evening and weekend events and activities, including the reservation of rooms, catering needs, and adequate staffing and room setup for activities.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the student organization leadership training program, encompassing both the on-campus workshops and off-campus overnight retreats.
  • Assist with the commuter student association and conduct workshops for commuter students.
  • Maintain student organization and activities database information pertaining to organization membership, officers, events, and program participation.
  • Supervise Campus Activities Student Assistants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • The coordinator will be expected to work at various evenings (that may include Fridays and Saturdays) during the academic year


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; at least one year post-undergraduate experience preferred.
  • Event planning and student activities programming experience.
  • Experience working with students in a college setting.
  • Preference given to applicants with experience working with diverse populations.
  • Computer skills including word processing, database, and spread sheet applications.
  • Familiarity with social media applications in promoting programming and events.
  • Understanding of programmatic assessment and evaluation.



Schedule:

Approximately 6 hours a month beyond regular working schedule:
  • Commuter Breakfasts
  • Saturday evening rotation
  • All-Office or Division-wide events
