Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Development for the Smith School of Business will be responsible for soliciting gifts of $50,000-$100,000 (but up to $1 million) from alumni and non-alumni friends in an assigned regional area. The Director will work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, and other University representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for school priorities. The Director of Development will monitor all prospect contacts in his/her portfolio to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. S/he will recommend and assist with programming involving the president, vice president, campaign volunteer leaders, and deans.

The Director must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the five and six figure range. Candidates must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals and campus leaders.

The Director of Development will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends and be required to travel locally and nationally 70% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 5-7 years of successful development or related experience. A proven record of working effectively initiating and building relationships with prospects. A successful track record of soliciting, securing and closing philanthropic gifts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The candidate must be an energetic professional with a proven track record of building excellent donor/client relationships. S/he must have a willingness and ability to make "cold calls" and to cultivate relationships with and solicit individuals.

The candidate must have excellent writing skills. Must have the ability to manage many projects simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. The candidate must have a strong customer service ethic and experience overseeing successful events and activities.

The candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal skills that will enable him/her to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues. He or she must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner.

The position involves extensive travel up to 70% of the time and will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferences:

Volunteer management and proposal writing experience is desired.
