Working Hours: Classes are primarily taught at the Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA. Instructors may be assigned to any campus. Assignments may include days, evenings, or weekends. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

Basic Function and Other Details:
The college is accepting applications to build a pool of instructors for part-time assignments at all locations.

Representative Duties:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching classes as assigned by the area dean; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her discipline; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content and assessing student achievement.

Adherence to District policies and procedures is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
For a noncredit course intended for older adults, either pattern (1) or pattern (2) following:

(1) A bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either (A) or (B) below:

(A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.

(B) One year of professional experience working with older adults.

(2) An associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty hours or four semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.

OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area

OR the equivalent*

AND Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Degrees and applicable college coursework must be from an accredited institution (a postsecondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Dept of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation).

Desirable Qualifications:
Successful teaching experience at the community college or undergraduate level. Ability to engge and inspire students representing a wide variety of ages, demographic groups, and educational abilities. Demonstrated success in teaching students from historically underrepresented groups, under prepared or nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities. Successful experience with different learning technologies. Strong academic preparation in area of instruction. Ability to communicte effectively both in oral and written discourse. Commitment to the community college objective of providing lower-division instructioin for students of diverse abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds.
