Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services

POSITION TITLE: Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services is responsible for providing leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive admissions plan and monitor its effectiveness, manage the departments’ operations, activities and outreach initiatives to meet current and future enrollment objectives, enhance staff development and performance accountability, and promote Bluefield State College as the college of choice for students.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Directs and executes institutional admissions process and student recruitment, developing and implementing programs, events, marketing and recruitment campaigns to prospective students and their parents, guidance counselors, high school and community college administrators, alumni, and members of the broader BSC community. Facilitates organizational development and change to lead the organization in increasing enrollment and improving the academic profile and diversity of student population. Directs and manages admissions office programs and services and monitors their effectiveness, recommending and implementing changes for improvement as appropriate. Advises administrators on admissions needs and plans and works collaboratively with college leadership in support of college enrollment goals.
 Designs and implements an aggressive and comprehensive student recruitment and admissions plan consistent with the college’s student recruitment and retention goals. Proactively develops strategies to meet or exceed college enrollment goals, including developing marketing materials in various print and media forms in collaboration with supervisor and Media Relations. Executes outreach activities to increase awareness of the college in the local and regional area. Coordinates the department's activities with those of other campuses, departments and the admissions representative network to promote direct contact with current/prospective students, establishing critical relationships to promote Bluefield State College as the college of choice. Works with principals, counselors,
community contacts and others concerning admissions, registration and graduation process.
 Interprets admission criteria, college policies and exercises independent judgment regarding admission standards and policies. Serves as reference point for inquiries regarding complex admissions policies on the institutional, state, and national level. Directs the operational workflow for the effective and efficient maintenance of admissions-related records and reports, including admissions applications and limited enrollment programs such as nursing and radiologic technology. Oversees daily operations to ensure timely, effective and efficient evaluation and processing of domestic and international admissions applications and related materials. Designs and implements a comprehensive data structure, effectively utilizing technology throughout the admissions process, including enrollment forecasting, goal-setting, and trend analysis. Works collaboratively with the Registrar’s Office to conducts preliminary evaluations of transfer credits, military training for credit and other sources of nontraditional credit. Evaluates eligibility and awards ACT academic scholarships to new students. Completes periodic application reports as assigned, analyzing recruitment-related data and assessing programming activities as part of the comprehensive student recruitment and admissions plan. Work with other units to provide services to students such as testing, career fairs, and job fairs. Coordinates new student orientation and assists in registration as needed.
 Supervises and develops the department staff, assigning work to accomplish department and college goals and objectives, provides training, orientation and professional development opportunities to improve individual capability, managing performance against job accountability, and ensuring compliance within established college policies and procedures as well as adhering to related regulatory provisions. Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development. Prepares and monitors department budget.
 Participates in committee meetings and maintains contact with academic and student support departments. Stays abreast of local, state, national, and international trends in higher education recruitment and utilizes best practices in recruitment strategies, keeping supervisor apprised in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in admissions, or a managerial/professional position in education or a related field. In addition:
 Ability to develop and implement successful recruiting strategies to increase student enrollment for the institution.
 Ability to effectively work with prospective/current students concerning academic/career guidance.
 Proven record of implementing technology-based solutions effectively and using data to make informed and strategic decisions.
 Ability to use fiscal and human resources effectively and efficiently.
 Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills - Ability to communicate and relate with populations from various age groups, and/or educational, racial, social and economic backgrounds.
 Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
 Commitment to diversity and to team-oriented management.
 Ability to lead, supervise, motivate and initiate change.
 Excellent organizational and managerial skills – must be able to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines; direct and supervise staff to advance goals/objectives for department and institution.
 Ability to interpret and administer policies and procedures in compliance with state/federal/institutional regulations, policy, procedures and guidelines.
 Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five or more years of progressively responsible college/university admissions experience resulting in increased student enrollment. Thorough knowledge of comprehensive admissions process including the collaborative interaction with other college offices. Proven record of creative and cost-effective marketing strategies with positive results. Experience leading change management/continuous quality improvement initiatives.
COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
