Director, Community Based Learning

The University of Wisconsin – Whitewater invites applications for a fulltime Director for its Community-Based Learning program. The director will serve as a campus leader for expanding opportunities for student participation in service learning and community-based research courses and social entrepreneurship projects. The Director has primary responsibility for identifying and developing community partnerships and delivering appropriate support for community-based learning courses. The Director will also collaborate with other campus offices to coordinate the professional development of faculty and instructional staff as it relates to the integration of best practices in service learning, community-based research and social entrepreneurship, and lead university and academic departments in evaluating the impact of community-based learning experiences on student learning outcomes. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2015. The Director reports to the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. Salary is competitive.
Qualifications:
This position involves a high degree of visibility, both internally and externally, in dealing with community members, faculty and UW-W administrators in developing and growing a community-based learning program. As such, it requires excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, the ability to lead and work collaboratively with others, and an appreciation of the value of community-based learning in student learning and development.
- Master’s degree in the human services, community relations, public relations, arts, sciences, education, or equivalent.
- Excellent leadership skills with high level of self-initiative.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to develop constructive working relationships with multiple constituencies.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and evidence of experience in program reporting and evaluation.
- Proven capacity for innovation and creative problem-solving.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Three to five years of experience working collaboratively with faculty in post-secondary settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement as an educational practice.
- Ability to supervise a staff, manage a budget, and promote community-based learning on campus and in the region.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Peoplesoft or similar student database programs, and/or experience with software to manage community based learning relationships.
- Experience developing, promoting, and managing experiential learning opportunities for students in a higher education setting.
- Experience working with community and corporate partners.

Whitewater is 50 miles from Milwaukee, 45 miles from Madison and 110 miles from Chicago.
