ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BIOINFORMATICS

SEARCH FOR THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BIOINFORMATICS

Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center

Medical College of Wisconsin

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to become the Associate Director of Bioinformatics within the Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center (GSPMC). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced investigator to design and enhance bioinformatics programs and initiatives at a leading biomedical research institution.

MCW has a long-standing reputation of conducting cutting-edge research, providing outstanding medical and graduate education, delivering innovative and compassionate patient care, and improving the health of the communities it serves. MCW is the second largest research institution in Wisconsin, receiving more than $225 million in external support annually for research, education, training, and related purposes. The institution provides care for more than 530,000 patients, representing more than 2.4 million patient visits annually. Within MCW, the GSPMC serves as a hub for foundational discovery research, clinical and translational science, and individualized patient care by providing infrastructure, service, and education for researchers and clinicians using genomic and epigenomic data. MCW faculty members made headlines worldwide after diagnosing “the first child saved by DNA sequencing” in 2010. Today, the GSPMC leads quality precision medicine and health care by enabling researchers and clinicians to use the genome sequence to understand disease, improve diagnosis and advance patient care.

Previously known as the Human Molecular Genetics Center, the GSPMC was launched in its current form in 2017. The Center’s organizational structure includes academic programs and practice integration specialty groups designed to support ambitious, transformative initiatives in science and personalized medicine. As the leader of the GSPMC’s bioinformatics program, the Associate Director of Bioinformatics will catalyze research and innovation to develop new methods and products for the analysis of large genomic datasets. The Associate Director will also design and expand bioinformatics services at MCW to serve users from the full spectrum of clinical and research departments affiliated with the GSPMC.

The successful candidate will be a creative bioinformatics leader with demonstrated administrative ability, outstanding personal research accomplishment, cultural proficiency, and the intellectual stature and vision to integrate and expand the GSPMC’s bioinformatics division. The candidate must hold a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent degree) in computer science, computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a field related to clinical medicine, and should meet the requirements for appointment as an associate or full professor at MCW.

MCW has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national search firm, to assist the search committee in its efforts. The search committee will review candidates beginning immediately and will continue until the position has been filled.

Nominations and applications (CV and cover letter) should be submitted online at www.imsearch.com/6699

As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, MCW recognizes the power of a diverse community and encourages applications from individuals with varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds.
