Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required in Criminal Justice, Law, Law Enforcement, Higher Education Administration, Industrial Relations, Public Administration or related area. Advanced degree preferred (e.g. Juris Doctorate).

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Five or more years of combined professional experience in at least two of the three following areas: 1) administering and coordinating a comprehensive program addressing Title IX compliance, 2) investigating, adjudicating, and resolving allegations of sex discrimination, including allegations of sexual harassment and sexual violence, 3) designing, facilitating providing and evaluating age and audience appropriate training on the prevention of sex discrimination, including the prevention of sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Preferred skills: 1) experience in a higher education, judicial, law enforcement, or regulatory compliance setting, 2) knowledge of sex discrimination grievance procedures in a University setting.

Position Summary:

The UW-Madison Title IX Coordinator oversees and coordinates UW-Madison's compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and works closely with UW-Madison's Clery Compliance Director to ensure compliance with certain aspects of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, ("VAWA") of 2013. The regulations implementing Title IX at, 34 C.F.R. Section 106.31(a), provides that no person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity operated by a recipient of Federal funding. Furthermore, 34 C.F.R. Section 106.8 (a), requires the designation of a Title IX Coordinator. The U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, (OCR) enforces Title IX.

The Campus Title IX Coordinator serves as the point person regarding Title IX compliance for campus administrators, faculty, staff, students, Colleges, Schools, and Divisions; coordinates and provides oversight of UW-Madison's system for Title IX compliance; provides oversight for UW-Madison's non-law enforcement response to reports and complaints of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking; works collaboratively with student affairs, human resources, and law enforcement professionals in responding to such reports and complaints; identifies and addresses any patterns or systemic problems revealed by such reports and complaints; serves as lead contact person for compliance audits; serves as lead contact person for inquiries and requests for information regarding Title IX; coordinates with central administrative offices, Colleges, Schools, and Divisions; and provides campus-wide advice and consultation regarding compliance, regulations, best- practices, and training and professional development.

The Campus Title IX Coordinator reports to the Director of Compliance.
