Required Qualifications:
* Minimum 7 years professional experience with Windows Server operating systems in physical and virtual environments.
* Enterprise virtualization environment experience, specifically with VMware vSphere and associated tools
* Basic knowledge of Linux command line-based tools and techniques
* Enterprise Active Directory management experience
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiarity with and comfort working in Data Center environments.
* Familiarity with Storage Area Networks, Enterprise Storage technology, and hardware RAID configuration and management
* Knowledge of IT security best practices, patching, anti-virus, intrusion detection, etc.
* Knowledge of Internet clients/servers/protocols, including Microsoft IIS (HTTP/HTTPS), FTP/SFTP, SSH, etc.
* Knowledge of basic Windows networking (TCP/IP and DNS) client connectivity and configuration.
* Knowledge of network and host based firewalling.

Position Summary:

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) provides technology services to the University of Wisconsin -Madison and a more limited set of services to UW System and other units of state government. DoIT employs approximately 900 people and has an operating budget of over $110 million. This position is in the Systems Engineering (SE) group, which is in the Systems Engineering and Operations Department (SEO). SEO is responsible for all aspects of Enterprise and departmental IT service operations for DoIT.

This position in SE reports to the group manager under general supervision. The Senior Windows Administrator has the responsibility for the development and technical support of complex Windows systems including but not limited to Active Directory authentication, Windows network management, Windows IIS and various other Windows services. It will work closely with vendor staff, other SE staff, Network Services staff, Data Center staff and Help Desk staff in resolving system problems. This position coordinates and supports scheduled tasks and system backups and restores, plans, organizes and conducts upgrades to the operational systems (in conjunction with the development teams, vendors and other DoIT groups as needed). It serves as focal point of security planning and best practices for SE supported Windows servers. Responsibilities include planning, installation, programming and development of multiple Windows based systems which include large servers, server clusters and virtual servers. This position will work with the SE manager to maintain optimum distribution of work for Windows team members, and on budget forecasting and labor requirements for planning for new versions of the Windows platform.
