Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum 7 years as a State of Wisconsin recognized Journey level license Electrician and credentialed Master Electrician with a minimum of 5 years in a lead worker or supervisor role in an electrical department. With the main focus in a combination of electrical disciplines including low and medium voltage system, direct digital controls, security access control software, hardwired and wireless network communications systems and utility plant systems that provide security, electricity and communications, utility service to commercial, industrial, and multi-tenant buildings, providing all maintenance repairs on normal and after hours services work.

License or Certificate:
Must be a licensed journey electrician and licensed master electrician by the State of WI

Position Summary:
This position supervises employees and other related activities of the UW-Madison, Physical Plant, Electric Shop. Responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to, directing the operations of the Electric Shop, including, maintenance, remodeling, and departmental projects for the UW-Madison facilities, and assigning and reviewing the work of Trades Superintendents, Craftsworker Superviors, electricians, and apprentices, when applicable. The position serves as shop liaison to customers, other trades groups, and management. Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance for the Physical Plant who reviews work through periodic conferences, reports, and inspections.

Additional Information:
* Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, practices, and procedures of the eletric trade.
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety requirements of the electric trade and the Wisconsin building code.
* Knowledge of symbols, information, and terminology used in interpretation of blue prints, sketches, specifications, and on-site analysis to make accurate estimates of labor, equipment, and material needs and costs.
* Ability to read, interpret, and disseminate information contained in technical manuals, repair bulletins, modification work orders, drawings, specifications, and related instructional materials.
* Ability to effectively supervise and communicate instructions per specifications to direct reports.
* Ability to minimize disruption to classrooms and research.
* Skilled in verbal, written, and graphical communications to impart complex maintenance, repair, or construction concepts and instructions. Ability to communicate well with employees, co-workers, managers, vendors, and members of the university community.
* Ability to communicate effectively to resolve issues with customers or other university staff. Knowledge of and ability to apply conflict resolution.
* Knowledge of mathematics; ability to take accurate measurements and perform common computations.
* Knowledge of project funding procedures, job cost accounting procedures, timekeeping requirements, etc.
* Knowledge of procedures used in requisitioning materials, equipment, and supplies, and of university and state requisition and purchasing procedures.
* Possession of self-reliance, initiative, and independent judgment sufficient to diagnose and resolve complex and difficult repair, construction or related problems without advice or counsel from higher supervision.
* Basic knowledge of civil service employment process, state and federal guidelines on equal employment opportunities and affirmative action.
* Knowledge of basic principles used in employee counseling, performance evaluations, resolving complaints, handling grievances, administering discipline, and of union contracts.
* Basic knowledge of employment interviewing techniques.
* Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and exercise a strong sense of priority and time management.
* Team player: understand the combined contributions of all Shop Supervisors to a common end.
* Customer service: Ensure that making service quality is everybody's business.
* Develop, deliver and attend safety meetings and training sessions when requested. Ability to be flexible, self-motivated, and quality oriented.
* Ability to maintain a professional and service-oriented relationship with customers and co-workers.
