Degree and area of specialization:
PhD required, in polymer chemistry, materials science, colloidal sciences or related field

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Demonstrable experience in laboratory research is essential. Experience in polymer science, nanotechnology and biomaterials is required. Experience in chromatography and separation chemistry is highly desirable. Familiarity with protein and/or phytochemical isolation, separation, and purification is particularly desirable. Experience with and/or knowledge of analytical method development and validation for proteins and/or phytochemicals is required. Excellent organization and communication (written and spoken) skills are a must. Candidate must show a history of research productivity, documented by high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Position Summary:
Principal duties: This position will join the lab of Dr. Jess Reed in the Department of Animal Sciences.

The selected candidate for this position will serve as a key member of the Reed Research Group (RRG). The RRG consists of two Principal Investigators and three research cores: Cardiovascular, Mucosal Immunology, and Phytochemistry. This leadership position will function as an Assistant Scientist working closely with and under the general guidance of the two Principal Investigators and participate as a member of the Leadership team. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, serving as a technical expert for all technical areas within the RRG, overseeing new method development throughout the phytochemistry research core, supervision and management of professional research staff as well as graduate students, and engaging with and initiating cross disciplinary collaborations.

A successful candidate will closely collaborate with the Principal Investigators and researchers involved in multidisciplinary research projects and initiatives. A successful candidate must be (1) intrinsically driven by the desire to solve problems, (2) highly innovative in how he/she approaches challenges and hurdles, and (3) well-organized, meticulous and driven to produce work of high caliber.
