Degree and area of specialization:
PhD. in Education, Sociology, Labor Economics, Counseling Psychology or related Social Science. Graduate level coursework or research experience related to education reform, work-based learning, teaching and learning, or student affairs in higher education is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
* Working knowledge of current issues in one or more of the following areas: work-based learning experiences (especially internship programs), workforce development at the postsecondary level, career advising and student affairs at the postsecondary level, and teaching and learning issues related to non-cognitive skills. In addition, a working knowledge of equity issues in higher education attainment and transitions to the labor force is essential.
* Proven experience conducting independent research including development of research design, human subjects protocols, data collection and analysis, and preparing results for dissemination through scholarly and practitioner outlets.
* Experience collecting qualitative data including conducting focus groups and/or interviews, participant observation, and other forms of fieldwork.
* Demonstrated experience with qualitative and quantitative analytic methods. Methodological expertise may include proficiency with psychometric testing of research instruments, regression techniques and multilevel modeling, narrative and thematic analysis, grounded theory, and case study analysis. Experience working with mixed methods designs and datasets is required.
* Successful track record of drafting and revising technical reports and research manuscripts under deadlines.
* Experience with public communications including blog posts, op-eds, and social media.

Preferred qualifications:
* Experience with data visualization techniques.
* Knowledge of federal and state higher education and vocational education policy a plus.
* Experience managing social media activities for a research or policy-oriented organization.
* Commitment to social justice and equal opportunity for all students.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
* Advanced proficiency in Stata, R, NVivo or MaxQ

Position Summary:
The Center for College to Workforce Transitions (CCWT) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a highly qualified individual for a researcher position to lead a suite of mixed-methods studies focused on college internships. This research program will investigate how design features of internship experiences are related to student outcomes including employment, wages, vocational self-concept, and job satisfaction. One of the foci of this research program is to examine potential barriers to participation in work-based learning for low-income, first-generation and/or under-represented minority college students. We are particularly interested in scholars with an interest in and experience with mixed methods research, work-based and experiential learning, and the analysis of policies to improve the academic and career outcomes of first-generation, low-income, and under-represented communities. This position requires the ability and desire to work independently and as part of a larger research team.

This full time position is based in Madison, WI and will require some travel.
