RESEARCH SPECIALIST


Position Summary:
The selected candidate for this position will become a key member of the UWSMPH Division of Infectious Disease Healthcare Infection Prevention Research Program and will work closely with the program's principal investigator (Dr. Christopher Crnich), other program staff members and research subjects. Dr. Crnich's research program is currently engaged in a number of projects focused on (1) testing therapies to treat and prevent complex infections; (2) studies to better understand how antibiotic-resistant bacteria are spread and the role antibiotics play in this process; and (3) implementing and evaluating strategies to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and improve the use of antibiotics in different settings.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
BA / BS required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Required:
-At least 1 year of prior laboratory and/or clinical research experience.
-Understanding of research confidentiality/privacy issues.
-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to read, understand and follow a research protocol.
-Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.

Preferred:
-Prior experience in healthcare or public health fields.
-Prior experience with the conduct of clinical trials, including subject recruitment and performing informed consent.
-Prior experience with IRB protocol development.
-Prior experience with preparing study protocols and manuals of operations.
-Prior experience preparing project reports, scientific manuscripts, and/or grant proposals.
-Prior experience with obtaining and processing microbiological samples.
-Skills in spreadsheet construction and analyses.
-Skills in database and/or statistical software.
