Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Genetics, Zoology or related areas of biological sciences preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

One to three years of full time laboratory experience preferred. Experience in animal husbandry, rodent colony management and Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Preference will be given to candidates with microscopic rodent tissue dissection experience. Cell culture experience is also strongly desired.

The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, have excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, work efficiently, both independently and as a team, have good conflict resolution skills and good problem solving skills.

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center is a fee-for-service core facility. The applicants would be expected to support the services of the well-established Transgenic Animal Facility (TAF) whose mission is to provide various genome editing technology and related support to UW investigators. The technologies include use of CRISPR/Cas9 technology to manipulate mouse and rat genomes by pre-implantation embryo microinjection, cryopreservation of embryos and sperm and rederivation of gene-edited mice and rats. A successful employee demonstrates efficient time management skills in addition to strong attention to detail in carrying out lab and animal related tasks. Applicants must be comfortable working with animal models, including mice and rats.

Additional Information:

The prefix and salary will be determined based on years of experience and academic preparation.

Some weekend, holiday and after hours work will be required.
