Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required in an area of Biological Sciences

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

One or more years of experience in a research setting required. Must have one or more years of experience working with molecular biological techniques, including DNA extraction, DNA sequencing, gel electrophoresis, PCR primer design and implementing PCR assays. Must have experience with general laboratory skills such as preparation of chemical solutions, autoclaving, and preparation of growth media for culturing bacteria.

Preferred experience: Experience growing and maintaining plants in growth chamber environments is preferred. Experience doing genetic crosses with Arabidopsis thaliana plants preferred. Experience extracting DNA and performing PCR-based genotyping of Arabidopsis plants preferred. Experience performing fluorescent microscopy to observe fluorescent protein expression in transgenic plants preferred. Experience preparing and transforming Arabidopsis mesophyll protoplasts preferred.

License or Certificate:

Position Summary:

The research specialist will be an integral member of a research lab performing molecular genetic research on the plant model system Arabidopsis thaliana (http://horticulture.wisc.edu/krysan/Krysan_Lab/Home.html). Under the direction and supervision of Dr. Patrick Krysan.
