Degree and area of specialization:

A Bachelor's degree in a biological science is required. Other degree areas may be considered if applicant has preferred experience and certification as indicated below.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

At least two years of histology experience strongly preferred.
ASCP certified HT and experience with immunohistochemistry preferred.

License or Certificate:

Position Summary:

The Histology Lab Manager will prepare sections of tissue from experimental protocols in which the endpoint is the determination of the expression of specific genes within the tissues. This involves both histologic tissue preparation and staining as well as immunohistochemistry of tissue sections primarily from rodents used in experiments in the McArdle Laboratory, as well as from tissues supplied by other investigators throughout the UWCCC and the University. Specifically, the work entails the cutting of serial paraffin and/or frozen sections (up to 100% or more sections per blocked specimen) with subsequent staining for tinctorial properties, enzyme activity and/or immunochemical reactivity.
