Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, business or construction-related field prefferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of three years working as a construction project manager. Ideal breadth of experience will include many building types and remodeling of existing buildings as well as new construction. Experience working with historically significant structures preferred.

License or Certificate:

Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License, have a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standard, and maintain ability to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles.

Position Summary:

This position serves under the general direction of the Project Administration Supervisor within the Campus Renovation Services Department of the Physical Plant to provide programming and policy analysis campus facilities maintenance and renovation projects. Campus Renovation Services is committed to delivering customer focused service while satisfying the renovation needs of the campus community. Enhancing the mission of the University and providing stewardship of the campus infrastructure are the principal goals of Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) and the Physical Plant Project Administration Center.

Additional Information:

Campus Renovation Services has direct responsibility for and manages approximately 300 construction projects totaling 10 million dollars annually. Through the use of effective project management practices, Campus Renovation Services works as a liaison between those who have project needs and the technical and administrative processes of construction in State of Wisconsin buildings. This position functions as the single point of contact for students, faculty, and staff who require small remodeling and construction projects in UW-Madison campus facilities by providing program research and analysis, policy development, application and enforcement, design and implementation of recommendations, purchasing and other contract initiation, and technical assistance of specific, near-term program directives. Campus Renovation Services also provides design services and construction management of these above-mentioned campus construction projects. Many of these projects must be coordinated around semester classroom schedules; as a result, project workloads increase significantly during non-classroom hours.

* Knowledge of project management, project estimating, work plan preparation and project change control concept.
* Knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints and estimating material and construction costs.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (Access, Excel, Word, Project), MS Windows operating system.
* Knowledge of procedures used in requisitioning materials, equipment, and supplies is required. Experience with state and/or university requisition and purchasing procedures preferred.
* Skill in oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
* Ability to maintain a professional arid service oriented relationship with customers and coworkers.
* Ability to be creative, flexible, self-motivated and quality oriented.
* Ability to exercise a strong sense of priority and time management.
* Education and experience that includes a basic working knowledge of OSHA general industry and/or construction safety regulations. Experience in providing general safe work practice guidance of multi? discipline craft and professional groups.
