Job Summary:

This position reports to the HR Manager in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), and is independently responsible for performing a wide variety of activities in the UW Human Resources System (HRS). These responsibilities include all HRS modules which include payroll, leave accounting, benefits, funding, and human resources. This position works with departmental supervisors and managers on HRS matters for faculty university staff, LTE, unclassified student assistants (RA's, TA's, PA's) and student hourly appointments.

Due to the integrated nature of HRS, the person in this position must have expert knowledge of human resources, payroll, benefits and financial areas to interpret, verify, enter and maintain the Division's human resources data in HRS.

This position is located in the School of Medicine and Public Health Dean's Office and by its nature and location, the incumbent is privy to confidential records and conversations that directly affect the employer-employee relationship and includes management activities and decisions that directly affect classified, unclassified and student assistant employees. The functions this position supports are directly related to management policies, decisions, alternative courses of action and strategies that affect employees College-wide, contract administration as well as salary decisions for staff.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills required:

At least one year experience in a payroll, benefits or HR position.

Knowledge of and ability to use word processing, email, spreadsheet, and database software.

Knowledge and Skills preferred:

Knowledge of and ability to interpret human resources policies and procedures relating to State of Wisconsin civil service recruitment and hiring, equal opportunity laws, payroll and benefits, and other policies and procedures.

Knowledge of and ability to interpret academic staff human resources policies and procedures.

Knowledge of and ability to interpret UW and SMPH policies and procedures relating to student hourly employment.

Expert Knowledge of all HRS/JEMS modules and other related applications.

Knowledge and expertise in how to interpret communications from SMPH Departments concerning hiring and funding of employee.

Knowledge in use of the HRS Data Warehouses containing HR and Payroll Data.

Knowledge in producing and processing reports using People Soft software.


Schedule Comment:

Normal business hours are 7:45-4:30. Specific hours will be determined at time of hire.
